Deja Vu Video: Tom Benson And The Birth Of The “Benson Boogie”

It was many years ago when Tom Benson bought the Saints and kept the city of New Orleans from losing their greatest treasure. That same year Tom hired general manager Jim Finks and head coach Jim Mora. Jim Mora signed a young rookie quarterback named Bobby Hebert. Those four men led the Saints to their first Saints winning season and first Saints playoff appearance.

’85 was a year to remember for the Saints. Jim Mora and the “Cajun Cannon” Bobby Hebert set the stage that season for what the New Orleans Saints were to finally become in ’09: The reining Super Bowl Champions. That’s when this video was taken, in ’85 before the Vikings game in the Superdome. As you’ll notice Benson had very little gray hair. By the time this video interview was shot the Benson Boogie was already famous.
